Tenebrae Service

April 17, Maundy Thursday, 6:30PM-8PM, FPC Sanctuary

The Tenebrae Service, which is a service of “darkness” or “shadows,” has been practiced by the Christian Church since the Middle Ages.

During our Tenebrae Service, we will hear readings from Scripture that will guide us through the story of Christ’s betrayal, His arrest, His unjust trial, and His death and burial.

Brief reflections by people from First Prez will help us pause and wonder that the God who created the universe became a human being and gave His life that we might have everlasting life.

As candles are extinguished after each reflection, we will have the opportunity to consider the depth of God’s love for us.

At the end of the service, the return of a small but persistent flame of the Christ candle will encourage us to anticipate the incredible joy of Jesus’ ultimate victory over sin and death on Easter morning.

Please join us for this contemplative and sobering experience.
